About CBYC

OVERVIEW

In 1978, a group of boaters approached the City of Scarborough with the idea of starting a non-profit, self-help club that would cater to both power and sail boats with a simple all-inclusive fee structure. The site would be the majestic Cathedral Bluffs beside the soft sands of Bluffer's Park Beach, just 20 minutes from downtown Toronto. Today the fun, friendship and camaraderie still reign supreme at CBYC with over 200 slips on 11 docks that accommodate both power and mono-hull sail boats.

CBYC: NOT YOUR TYPICAL YACHT CLUB

Where some might see yacht clubs as steeped in rules, dress codes and large sailing vessels, CBYC is much different. The CBYB atmosphere is casual with a diverse membership that's approximately 60 sail/40 power. Both seasoned and new boaters alike enjoy the benefits of being part of a caring, respectful community, assured the club is managed securely with common sense rules. Members enjoy belonging to a club they can proudly share with friends and family.

SOCIAL MEMBERSHIP

For those looking for a great club to join but don't have a boat, CBYC offers our Social Membership program. Join in on all the clubhouse related social events and activities, and make great friends for a low yearly fee.

VALUE

Slips are fully serviced with 30 amp power, fresh water, dock-side parking and patio decks at each dock. With protective dockage, a private entrance, a beautiful clubhouse, a secured children's play area, boating seminars, weekend cruises to reciprocal clubs and organized racing for competitive sailors, CBYC offers members a wonderful year-round experience. With a surprisingly reasonable all-inclusive fee that also includes launch, unlimited pump-outs, mast crane usage, haul out, power bottom wash, winter storage and more, CBYC is considered one of the best values on the lake.

CLUBHOUSE / RESTAURANT

Our clubhouse is open year-round and features a cozy 2nd floor lounge, wood burning fireplace, large bar and excellent restaurant. Enjoy fantastic dining indoors with wall-to-wall picture windows or on our covered deck with a beautiful view of the club, lake and the Bluffs. The main floor includes washrooms, showers, laundry room, sailors lounge and library. Members also enjoy movies, cards and dart nights as well as Club Social Events held at the clubhouse.

BLUFFS, BEACHES AND PARKS

The obvious perks and benefits of being at CBYC aren't limited to the Club itself. CBYC is surrounded by stellar Bluffs, beautiful sandy beaches, stunning landscapes, trails and lush parklands... all within a short walking distance. Both the main beach and the secluded lagoon feature stunning views of the Bluffs and a soft sandy bottom for optional shallow anchoring.

SELF-HELP

Self-help has been a key principle in the building and maintenance of our club as well as fostering comradely with fellow members. Each active Senior Member is asked to contribute just 20 work hours per year. New members have to complete just 10 hours in the first season. Hours can be easily earned participating on team projects or serving on one of the club committees.

MEMBER COMMUNICATIONS

Administration of CBYC is through the Board of Directors elected by the membership each fall at the Annual General Meeting. The Club Operating Committees report to the Board and to keep members abreast of club affairs and budgets. In addition to the Membership section of the website, our club newsletter "Masthead" is published at least four times a year keeping members up to date on the club.
